My Father lives in Summerhill, PA, and is in his 80′s – he just got his tax bill, and says he has not been given any homestead exemptions, even though he has lived on his property for over 60 years. He is more or less a shut in and cannot appear in court which is what the taxing authority requires. I cannot obtain a power of attorney and do it for him because I live out of state (Texas), and he won’t give me one. (He did give one to my sister but she lives in Lewistown a two hour drive and she works). The first problem however, is in obtaining the required appraisel (which could cost $600, and he nor I have that money). What to do?
