NC property taxes

Asked by: 58 views North Carolina

Please tell me if there is a property tax break for senior citizens in Wayne County. My sisters and brothers own property and asked me to find some information or forms for them.
Are there forms that I can print out and give them to read?
Thank you

North Carolina residents who are 65 years old or older, or who are totally and permanently disabled are entitled to some relief from property taxes if they meet certain requirements. To get tax relief, you must:

    • Be a North Carolina resident 65 years old or older, or totally and permanently disabled; and
    • Have an income of not more than $25,600 per year (as of August 2008; income cutoff is increased annually based on cost-of-living).

Example: If your property is assessed for tax purposes at $100,000 and you qualify for tax relief, you will pay property taxes on 50% of that value, or $50,000.
